To Much Adventure for One Day

Last night was great- after having a lame, boring Saturday last weekend I think today made up for it.

Joleesa woke me up with a phone call asking me if I wanted to go to breakfast. I wasn't about to turn her down. A) I spend very little time with her and B) I was really hungry hehe

I was driving back to the apartment to get my computer and to go to Mom and Dad's to use the internet. When I decided to grab my camera as well and take a drive. I just went from one tourist look out to another until I got past Girwood, AK which is about 30 miles from Anchorage. During the winter the Cook Inlet doesn't look like its even water let alone part of the ocean. It looks like a cavern of craggy rocks. This picture isn't one of mine- I didn't get to take a picture of the deep area where there is such differences in the depths of the rocks because thats when the uh adventure started.

The Seward High has a speed limit of 55 on most of the turns and 65 on the straight ways- which there are not that many of them. We I got this impatient jerk behind me that clearly wanted to go faster then law abiding me. I came up to the next tourist turn off and was going an acceptable speed to make the turn but the jerk was to close on my tail so I took the turn wide and avoided him clipping back end. Well its still winter and in saving my back end I sent my front end straight into a snow bank (I hit a patch of ice). Right up and over barrying my front wheels into the snow. I put my car in reverse to see if it wasn't as bad as I thought. Oh Lord Help me it was bad. I tried going forward as there was flat open field/snow covered pavement in front of me. A couple that was at the turn off tried to push me out and there was no point I was stuck. So I called Dad trying to freak out- making sure I was to call the insurance roadside assistance. I was a little scared as I didn't really know for sure where I was in away to tell someone how to locate me. I WAS NOT LOST lol I'd like to clarify that though it would add to the crazyness of the day if had been. I cried a little then got it together. I called the 1-800 number for Geico and got a girl that didn't know much but what see did know was that my policy would not be covering a tow. I called dad back and told them what the lady said he said call a tow truck. I hung up with him when a State trooper pulled up. He asked if I was okay. I said I was just fine but a bit stuck. He laughed and told me it was an understatement. He asked if there was any damage to the car. I explained that I couldn't get my front doors open and I hadn't gotten off the phone long enough to crawl out the back. He told me to stay put and he'd check. He determined there was no damage done but unfortinitly from the way I was burried he couldn't pull me out. He gave me the number for the nearest tow truck and told me where I was located (by the mile markers). He asked if I would be okay I told him yeah. He said he'd check back in a little bit. Then it was a steady stream of people stopping to help. Little SUVs thinking they could pull me out it was so sad because these people truly wanted to get me out of there but I was to stuck. One guy was getting made that all these big trucks were passing by and not stopping.

At one point I had 2 SUVs a 1/2 ton truck- no one had any towing ropes but they tried to push me out (I think they got me stuck more hehe) It was almost a maucho fest as there were 5 guys trying to figure it out. They did manage to get my doors to open (though I wasn't about to get out of the car)

I called the insurance company back to try one more time to see if I could get them to call a tow truck for me as the number the trooper gave me was busy. I got a different agent this time and he asked if I was bodily harmed. I said no- I was perfectly fine just stuck in the middle of no where. He laughed and told me they wouldn't cover a tow (i knew this) because neither my car or myself were damaged. I asked if I did damage would they cover it, he laughed and said please dont do that but this time he volunteered to call a tow truck for me. I spoke with the towing company and it would 30-45 minutes before they could reach me as they were from Anchorage and not Girwood. I was prepared to be bored. There was no way I was getting out of my car and yet the very place I wanted to take pictures at was just a few hundred feet in front of me.

I was starring off into space when I noticed out of the corner of my eye someone backing up to my car and a lady walking to me. Once she got out of my side vision I could see that it was a one ton truck. If anything was going to pull me out before the tow truck got there it was going to be this truck. The guy was attaching the tow rope to by back end before I even said hi. :-)

They lady told me that they saw me earlier but couldn't tell if I was in trouble so went ahead and past by and went several miles down the road but it bothered her so much because she thought for sure it was girl in the car and made her husband turn around to check. A few wheel spinning moments later I was free. He checked my car for damage and there was none. Said he was shocked because of all the ice i hit that it was dented or scrapped up. I wasn't shocked I knew God had sent them to me and that everything was going to be okay. They were so happy to help. Alaskan's stick together she said as she gave me a hug good bye.

I cried (total adrenaline crash)- as I was overwhelmed by the whole thing- Im use to having my dad at an arms reach but not this time he's over 3,000 miles away. But then I remembered I still had my Father with me and he was much closer then an arms reach. He kept me safe. Showed me that there are plunty of Good Samaratines in Alaska and sent the right ones around at the right time- to keep me positive and to help me. I know Mom and Dad were praying -hehe - that is in between phone calls every couple minutes to make sure I was okay.

I made it home safely after a very long and tiring drive back and Joleesa asked me if the pictures were worth it. I don't know about that. I don't think a picture could possibly be worth the worry I caused my family lol but I'll let you be the judge of that

I did get a picture at one of the locations- but where I got stuck at was much cooler

Praise the Lord for people who will listen to that still small voice. My faves are the first two. Absolutely right up my alley. Glad you are okay.

The pictures were DEFINITELY worth the experience you endured to get them. ;-) Just think of all the times you'll be able to look back at that little drive over the years and remember all of the kind people that were there to assist you! :-)

LOVE the first two pictures, then the 4th and 5th.

Simply GORGEOUS pictures! It's easy for me to say (from this end) that getting stuck was worth it, and I agree with Becki--you've just deposited a neat experience in your Memory Bank that you can withdraw in the future. ;-) And experiences like that help you mature. Do you feel more mature??? LOL
